DIY Door Latch Repair Tips for Maytag Dishwashers
- You only need two tools for this job: a T20 Torx screwdriver, and a pair of pliers. If you intend to replace the door latch or handle, you will need to order this part separately. You can contact our Maytag repair team to order the part.
- We are dealing with live microswitches during this repair that transfer up to 120 volts. The very first thing you should do for this repair is to locate your breaker box and switch all pertinent breakers OFF. Please do not attempt these repairs without having shut off the breaker.
- Open the dishwasher door and locate the screws around the inside perimeter. Most Maytag dishwasher models will have 11 screws in total. Whatever the number for your specific model, they will be of the same length, and must be removed at this stage.
- Once the screws are removed, you can pry the interior away from the faceplate to expose the electronic components.
- Locate the handle for your door latch. The microswitches will be nearby. Pry these out using your pliers.
- Once the microswitches are removed from the leads, you can replace the handle using the part ordered from your manufacturer. Replace the old latch and attach the leads, then simply reverse the previous steps. Realign the faceplate and tighten your 11+ screws roughly halfway. We recommend only tightening them halfway at this stage so that you still have room to adjust the faceplate. Once you’re satisfied with the alignment, tightening each screw in the rest of the way.
- Test your door latch seal and play with the front electronic interface to ensure that your repair didn’t disrupt any of the backlighting and settings.
